Old me, New branding

“ Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Already Taken “

Oscar Wilde

Packaging yourself is a tough task. Best to ask a professional. Laura Brown Studio, took one look at my overstuffed, sticker filled, neon pink filo fax and knew instinctively that had to feature somehow in the look and feel for my personal branding project.

My work is experienced in ‘the moment’ and can be ephemeral - things are always in motion, always moving forward, always flexing to a brief, to practical concerns, to a budget, and to taste of the client. It can be a tricky balancing act and one that tests all your creativity - which is essentially a measure in problem-solving.

Being a lover of shops herself, Laura understood the life of a visual merchandiser and chose to use washi tape as a visual device that we used in my logo and throughout the site. For those of you yet to fall in love with this Japanese import - you’re in for a treat. It is a masking-like tape that is super durable and flexible and comes in a huge variety of widths, textures, patterns, and colours. It tears easily and can be safely applied to a variety of surfaces; it doesn't leave a sticky residue behind, making it especially ideal for crafty types.

And if visual merchandisers and stylists are anything, they are crafty!

Home project: Hillcroft

“ A home sweet home is not curated or produced by acquiring a perfect arrangement of chairs, lamps, and friends. A real living space is made from living, not decorating. A bored materialist can’t understand that a house has to become a home. It happens, not through perfection but by participation. ”

Andy Beach

What follows is a series of pictures recording our family home last summer, of course, in the time since, things have moved and changed but again, that is the very nature of a home. Always adapting, always flexing, always welcoming.
